A mother cat, with a broken jaw and a hole in her mouth, endures pain but still tenderly nurtures her kittens.
It wasn’t until this morning, with the assistance of my rescue team colleagues, that we finally located the distressed cat’s hiding place. As it turned out, this severely injured cat was the mother of four adorable kittens. They were living amidst a pile of debris and garbage. Perhaps the mother cat had rejected my help because she wanted to care for her own offspring.
The kittens were truly pitiable, living in such miserable conditions. But this mother cat was truly a remarkable caretaker. Despite enduring excruciating pain throughout her body, she made every effort to ensure her kittens were fed. I took the mother cat to the veterinary hospital for examination while the rescue team cared for the kittens.
Initially, the kittens tried to escape, but upon hearing their mother’s meows, they willingly retreated into their enclosure. The examination revealed that the mother cat had a broken jaw, a large wound on her chin, and severe malnutrition. It seemed that her condition had persisted for over a month, and one couldn’t fathom the extent of her suffering. She was so thin that her bones were visible.
The doctor began cleaning her wounds and administered anti-inflammatory medication. However, the jaw surgery couldn’t be performed yet due to her weakened and emaciated state. For now, the cat would have to stay at the hospital for a month until she was in a suitable condition for the surgery.
At present, she is able to eat a little and is under close observation. We are also taking good care of the kittens. They seem to long for their mother, meowing incessantly throughout the day. We hope for the mother cat’s speedy recovery so that she can be reunited with her precious kittens.
